Our Full-Day Outpatient Treatment Program, often referred to as a partial hospitalization program (PHP), is the most structured level of outpatient care offered at Pioneer Behavioral Health. This comprehensive program provides all-day support through evidence-based therapies, recovery-focused activities, and clinical services led by master’s-level professionals. Clients participate in treatment alongside a supportive peer community, creating an environment where they can focus on healing, personal growth, and continued recovery.
The program is designed for individuals who need a higher level of clinical support while still having the ability to live at home and maintain responsibilities outside of treatment. Along with group-based services, clients receive one individual therapy session each week and can work with a psychiatric nurse practitioner for medication management or family support needs. Each client is also assigned a case manager who helps monitor progress, coordinate care, and provide additional support throughout treatment.
Full-Day Treatment Program Weekday Schedule
Full-Day Treatment participants generally attend programming five days per week, Monday through Friday. While clients follow a structured daily schedule, treatment can be adjusted to address individual goals and needs. Lunch is provided each day.

- 09:00 am – Check-In & Goal Setting

We recognize that committing to treatment can be challenging when you have work, family, school, or other responsibilities. Our team works with each client to create a treatment plan that provides meaningful clinical support while considering their individual circumstances. Through structured programming and personalized guidance, our Full-Day Treatment Program helps clients develop practical skills for managing mental health and substance use challenges and continuing their recovery.
Clinical Services
At our Arlington Heights outpatient programs, we understand that meaningful recovery involves more than simply addressing symptoms. Our clinical services are designed to help clients better understand the factors affecting their mental health and substance use while developing practical strategies for managing challenges and maintaining progress.
- Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): For individuals who may benefit from medication as part of treatment, MAT can be incorporated into a comprehensive care plan when clinically appropriate. By combining appropriate medications with behavioral health services, MAT may help reduce cravings, promote greater stability, and support continued engagement in treatment.
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT helps clients identify connections between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. During treatment, individuals can learn to recognize unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and practice strategies that support positive behavioral changes and long-term recovery.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): DBT provides practical tools for managing difficult emotions, responding to stress, and navigating challenging situations. Clients can develop skills related to emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness that can be applied throughout their recovery.
- Group Therapy: Group therapy gives clients the opportunity to participate in guided discussions and connect with peers who may have experienced similar challenges. These sessions encourage openness, accountability, skill development, and mutual support while helping individuals feel less isolated during the recovery process.
What Happens After Full-Day Treatment (PHP)?
After completing the Full-Day Outpatient Treatment Program, clients may transition into a lower level of care based on their individual progress and ongoing needs. For many individuals, this may include our Half-Day Treatment Program (IOP), which provides continued clinical support while allowing clients to take on greater independence.
Clients may also benefit from Aftercare Planning, which helps individuals maintain the progress they made during treatment, strengthen coping skills, and prepare for challenges that may arise as they return to their regular routines.
Our Alumni Program provides another opportunity to remain connected after completing treatment. Through ongoing peer connection, sober social activities, and community support, alumni can continue building relationships and reinforcing the progress they made during their treatment experience.

Full-Day Treatment (PHP) FAQ
At Pioneer Behavioral Health, Full-Day Treatment (PHP) is our most structured level of outpatient care and is commonly known as a partial hospitalization program (PHP). This program provides comprehensive mental health and addiction treatment for individuals who need consistent clinical support while still being able to live at home. Our Full-Day Treatment (PHP) program is designed to provide structure, therapeutic support, and practical skills that can help clients make meaningful progress in recovery.
Full-Day Treatment (PHP) may be appropriate for individuals who need more support than traditional outpatient treatment can provide but do not require residential care. It can be beneficial for people experiencing significant mental health or substance use challenges who would benefit from a structured, full-day treatment environment. An assessment can help determine whether Full-Day Treatment (PHP) is an appropriate level of care based on each person's needs.
A typical day in Full-Day Treatment (PHP) follows a structured schedule designed to provide consistent therapeutic support and opportunities to practice new skills. Programming may include check-in, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), journaling, psychoeducation, group therapy, skills development, and daily wrap-up. The exact schedule and services may vary based on the client's treatment plan and clinical needs.
At Pioneer Behavioral Health, Full-Day Treatment (PHP) may incorporate evidence-based therapeutic approaches, group therapy, psychoeducation, medication management when clinically appropriate, and other clinical services. Treatment focuses on helping clients better understand their mental health or substance use concerns while developing practical strategies for managing symptoms, emotions, triggers, and daily challenges.
Full-Day Treatment (PHP) provides a higher level of structure and clinical support than traditional outpatient care. Clients participate in treatment for a substantial portion of the day while continuing to live at home and remain connected to their community. Depending on progress and ongoing needs, a client may later transition from Full-Day Treatment (PHP) to Half-Day Treatment (IOP) or another appropriate level of support.
As clients make progress, our team can help identify an appropriate next step in treatment. Some individuals may transition from Full-Day Treatment (PHP) to Half-Day Treatment (IOP), while others may move into Aftercare Planning or continued recovery support. The goal is to help clients gradually increase independence while maintaining the skills and progress developed during treatment.
