Our Full-Day Outpatient Treatment Program, commonly known as a partial hospitalization program (PHP), is the most intensive level of outpatient care we provide. This structured, all-day program combines evidence-based therapies, one-on-one counseling, and recovery-focused activities led by master’s-level clinicians. Clients participate in treatment within a supportive peer community, creating an environment designed for healing and growth.
This program is ideal for individuals who require a high level of clinical support while still maintaining flexibility outside of treatment. In addition to group sessions, clients receive one individual therapy session each week. They also have access to a psychiatric nurse practitioner for medication management or family support needs. Each client is paired with a case manager who closely monitors progress throughout their recovery journey.
Full-Day Treatment Program Weekday Schedule
Full-Day participants typically attend treatment five days a week, Monday through Friday. While the structure is consistent, the program can be tailored to meet each client’s unique needs. Lunch is provided daily.
Sample Schedule:
- 09:00 am – Check-In & Goal Setting
- 09:45 am – Group Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- 10:45 am – Group Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- 12:30 pm – Lunch Break
- 01:00 pm – Journaling
- 01:30 pm – Psychoeducation, Clinical Skills Development
- 02:45 pm – Wrap-Up
- 03:30 pm – Check-Out
In addition, each client participates in one individual therapy session per week.
We understand that daily commitments can feel overwhelming. That’s why we work with clients to create a customized plan that balances treatment with personal responsibilities. Our Full-Day Program provides intensive support and personalized guidance for long-term recovery from mental health challenges.
Clinical Services
At our outpatient treatment programs, we understand that the path to recovery can come with many challenges. Our comprehensive clinical services are designed to address those challenges while providing the guidance, support, and resources you need to make meaningful progress in your recovery. Here’s how our programs can help:
- Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): Managing cravings can be an important part of addiction recovery. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) combines appropriate medications with behavioral health therapy to help reduce substance use cravings, support stability, and improve your ability to stay engaged in treatment. When clinically appropriate, MAT can be incorporated into a personalized addiction treatment plan alongside counseling and other evidence-based services.
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Cognitive-behavioral therapy helps individuals in addiction treatment recognize the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that may contribute to substance use. Through CBT, clients learn to challenge unhealthy thought patterns, develop effective coping skills, and replace harmful behaviors with healthier strategies that support long-term recovery.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Dialectical behavior therapy helps clients understand and manage the emotional triggers that can contribute to substance use and other unhealthy behaviors. DBT focuses on practical skills for emotional regulation, stress management, distress tolerance, and healthier responses to challenging situations. These skills can play an important role in maintaining progress throughout addiction recovery.
- Group Therapy: Group therapy provides a supportive setting where individuals can connect with peers who understand the challenges of addiction and recovery. Through guided discussions and shared experiences, clients can develop coping skills, build accountability, and gain encouragement from others working toward similar goals. Group therapy can also help reduce isolation and create a stronger sense of connection during the addiction treatment process.
After Full-Day Treatment (PHP)
Upon completing the Full-Day Outpatient Program, clients are encouraged to transition into our Half-Day Program (IOP) or Aftercare services.
Aftercare is designed to help clients stay accountable, sharpen the skills they’ve learned, and work through challenges that may arise with increased independence.
We also offer an Alumni Program, which provides ongoing peer support, sober social events, and community connection. Both Aftercare and Alumni services help reinforce the progress clients have made and support long-term recovery success.

Full-Day Treatment (PHP) FAQ
At Pioneer Behavioral Health, Full-Day Treatment (PHP) is our most intensive level of outpatient care and is commonly known as a partial hospitalization program (PHP). This structured program provides comprehensive support for individuals experiencing mental health or substance use challenges who need a high level of clinical care while continuing to live outside of a residential treatment setting. Our Full-Day Treatment (PHP) program is available at our Longmeadow and Oxford, Massachusetts locations.
Full-Day Treatment (PHP) may be appropriate for individuals who need more structure and clinical support than traditional outpatient treatment provides but can still safely live at home. The program can support people dealing with significant mental health symptoms, substance use concerns, or co-occurring conditions. An individualized assessment helps determine whether Full-Day Treatment (PHP) is the right level of care.
Full-Day Treatment (PHP) generally takes place five days a week, Monday through Friday, with a consistent schedule that can be adapted to individual treatment needs. A sample day may include check-in and goal setting, group cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), group dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), lunch, journaling, psychoeducation, clinical skills development, wrap-up, and check-out. Clients also participate in one individual therapy session each week.
Our Full-Day Treatment (PHP) program combines multiple forms of clinical support within one structured treatment environment. Services may include CBT, DBT, group therapy, individual therapy, psychoeducation, medication management when clinically appropriate, case management, and medication-assisted treatment when appropriate for addiction recovery. This combination allows treatment to address both immediate symptoms and the underlying challenges that can affect long-term recovery.
Full-Day Treatment (PHP) is designed to address a range of behavioral health needs, including mental health conditions, substance use concerns, and co-occurring challenges. Clients can develop practical coping skills, work through emotional and behavioral challenges, address substance use triggers, and receive ongoing clinical support. The program also provides a supportive peer environment where clients can connect with others working toward recovery.
Completing Full-Day Treatment (PHP) does not have to mean the end of structured support. Depending on a client's progress and ongoing needs, Pioneer Behavioral Health may recommend transitioning to Half-Day Treatment (IOP), Aftercare Planning, or the Alumni Program. These continuing-care options can help clients gradually increase independence while maintaining accountability, strengthening the skills developed during treatment, and staying connected to a recovery community.
